Mathematics
is
the name under which I offer an educational service specialising in
individual tuition. I welcome students who wish to improve their
future prospects as well as those struggling with work that has not
been adequately covered in the school curriculum. From Key Stage 3,
through GCSE and A Level and on to degree level, I believe that am
able to give valuable assistance and encouragement to students who
need that support.

GCSE
In recent years
education has become a very competitive field. Various pressures,
increasing classroom sizes, skill and teacher shortages, to name a
few, can mean that the needs of students are sacrificed to the
general running of the class. This could leave the student in a poor
position to compete for that precious individual attention, which
during Year 10 and 11, is critical to the future prospects of any
student aiming to take GCSEs. It is also notable many students at
this stage still do not know their multiplication tables (an
essential requirement for starting the course).

I aim to redress this balance

In return, I ask only that the
student: |
- Focusing specific needs
- Building confidence
- Improving study skills
- Developing exam techniques
|
- Shows a willingness to learn
- Complete any reasonable assignments
- Avoid unnecessary use of
calculators
|
I can provide
support with Mathematics and Physics across the GCSE examination
Boards (WJEC, AQA, Edexcel, OCR) and have past
examination papers in most subjects available for
practise. |
A
Level Achieved good grades at
GCSE, but finding the work at 'A' Level tough going? Do you need a
continuous programme of additional tuition to develop confidence,
depth of knowledge or perhaps only a boost to help understanding of
a particular module or subject area?
I can offer support on all
the popular Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics modules
across the local Examination Boards (WJEC, AQA, Edexcel, OCR) and have past examination
papers available for practise.
As well as maths, I can
offer support across most of the Physics syllabus.

About me
I graduated from the
University of Wales in 1968 with a Joint Honours Degree in Applied
Mathematics and Physics, then qualified with a Postgraduate
Certificate in Education at the University of Exeter Department of
Education. I spent thirty years teaching, including five years at
Kenton College Nairobi, Kenya and ten years at the Preparatory
School for Haileybury and Imperial Service College. I have also
taught Maths to Advanced Level at an International School in the
U.A.E. before recently taking early retirement on health grounds. It
still gives me great satisfaction to pass on the understanding and
enjoyment of Maths to pupils who are keen to learn, and some of my
private pupils have been rewarded with highly commendable results.
My other main interests
include Astronomy, Computing and Aviation. During my time in Kenya I
became the chairman of the Kenya Astronomical Society and my main
task was to compute local lunar and planetary phenomena.
I also have an active interest in Aviation and hold a private pilot's licence.

Location Most of my teaching is done in the evening
after 4.30 pm and up to 9.00 pm at the pupil's home, although other
arrangements can sometimes be made. Please provide adequate table
space with good illumination.
